Cabarita Kitchen

Green kitchen with leathered quartzite island and Brushed Gold Vesio Handles in a Cabarita waterfront home

Overlooking Cabarita Bay in Sydney's Inner West, this semi-detached waterfront home has been completely rethought for an empty-nester couple and their beloved dog, Gracie. Designer Daniel Mazic of Dan Kitchens Australia reworked an early-2000s kitchen that felt clunky and disconnected, creating a kitchen, scullery and laundry that flow together beautifully. Green joinery in Dulux Bay Leaf, leathered Calacatta Davinci Quartzite and fluted Tasmanian Oak set the scene, and the Vesio Handle in Brushed Gold ties it all together.

A kitchen made for entertaining

The homeowners wanted a lifestyle closer to the city, the ferries, the parks, the restaurants and the ocean baths, and a home that felt vibrant, welcoming and made for entertaining. At its centre is a long island with seating for four, framed by dramatic leathered Calacatta Davinci Quartzite. It connects seamlessly to the living space while quietly concealing extensive storage.

Rather than overhead cabinetry, Daniel chose a statement rangehood floating against a striking wall of veined quartzite, giving the room a greater sense of openness and letting the natural stone become the star.

The scullery behind the glass

Behind black steel framed fluted glass doors sits a generous scullery, a calmer and more utilitarian zone for preparation, coffee making and breakfast routines, and for keeping the entertaining mess out of sight. Altered walls and new additions create three connected spaces, kitchen, scullery and laundry, with a tri zone work flow that makes moving between them seamless. Pivot and cavity sliding doors mean each area can also be closed off when needed.

Vesio Handle, Brushed Gold

Across both the kitchen and the scullery, the Vesio Handle in Brushed Gold appears in two sizes: the 224mm in a horizontal position and the 320mm running vertically. The soft, brushed finish glows against the Bay Leaf green, echoes the warmth of the fluted Tasmanian Oak and brings a gentle sense of continuity to every run of joinery, right through to the matching laundry.
